An AI-powered app recommended by NICE for insomnia instead of sleeping pills

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended Sleepio, an AI-sponsored application offering personalised digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT- I) for people with insomnia, instead of sleeping pills. This recommendation was made after the application showed evidence of being comparatively more effective than pills and healthy sleep patterns. Sleepio offers a six-week self-help programme that consists of a sleep test, a record of sleep patterns, and a weekly session of interactive CBT-I. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on identifying the triggers of insomnia and changing the patient’s thinking towards sleep and its patterns.
