Local organisations of the Berkshire County partnered with the county’s Sheriff Department and Berkshire Health Systems to discuss food insecurity and chronic illness. A free grocery and delivery programme called the Flexible Services Initiative spanning over 10 weeks has been initiated. The goal of the Flexible Services Initiative is to make it easier for everyone to access a healthy diet. Certified inmates at the Berkshire County House of Corrections prepare the meals. As a result, the programme not only helps individuals suffering from chronic medical illnesses, but also aids the inmates in improving their lives. A survey revealed that 90 percent of the people participating in the program rated it as “excellent”.
