‘Food is Medicine’ programme to make food accessible to food insecure areas

After the increase in costs and cessation of expanded benefits, The Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) Food Reservoir launched ‘Food is Medicine’ programme by collaborating with local healthcare facilitators to make healthy food accessible to individuals facing food insecurity. The food reservoir depends on healthcare providers’ screening of struggling patients to whom, then, food is provided. Currently, HACAP Food Reservoir is in partnership with 10 healthcare facilities. The objective is to supply food boxes to the individuals that otherwise will not reach to food pantries for help. Therefore, with the help of healthcare providers, individuals who suffer from hunger can be reached out to after being screened.
