Food Pharmacy at Samaritan House Free Clinics in Peninsula is offering food as medicine

Dr. Jason Wong, medical director, launched the Food Pharmacy at Samaritan House Free Clinics that provides fresh produce, dairy products, and poultry food to improve food insecurity among the individuals of Peninsula. Dr. Jason Wong, instead of prescribing medicines to the patients, prescribes them healthy food that is available at the food pharmacy. In Redwood City and San Mateo, the Food Pharmacy has been able to serve fresh produce to 650 people in collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Sequoia Healthcare District. Food insecure and low-income patients suffering from chronic issues like hypertension and diabetes can be benefited from Samaritan House Clinics. The food pharmacy also delivers food to the patient’s house.
