Houston Hospital becomes the first to complete robotic-assisted surgery

Dr. Pranav Loyalka, a cardiologist at HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Centre, has completed the first ever robotic-assisted coronary angioplasty employing the FDA’s approved robotic technology. The surgery was performed on patients suffering from coronary artery disease (CAD), and the process included putting stents and balloons. A joystick is used by the patients, which picks up the procedure’s tools to remove blockage to resume blood flow. The doctor operated the robot while sitting in the cockpit. CAD is a life-threatening and common disease among Americans, which calls for the importance of innovative technologies for treatment.
