Medically tailored meals can potentially reduce patient admissions in hospitals

Meals on the Wheels has been serving healthy meals to individuals residing in Portland for decades. 5 years ago, the company entered into an agreement with a local hospital to provide nutritious meals to senior citizens with chronic diseases who exit the hospital.

Recently, the data analysed from the particular Portland hospital showed that the rate of being admitted to the hospital were reduced by half for those who received medically tailored meals and the cost of care was lower as well. To increase food security across the US and reduce chronic diseases, the concept of food as medicine is gaining a lot of traction.
