Patients at Hartford can enjoy ‘Food as Medicine’ facilities now!

To combat food insecurity, Hartford has also taken the crucial step of offering ‘Food as Medicine’ free-of-charge incentive to help its patients. The Connecticut-based healthcare organisation has launched The Healthy Food Resource Center that is situated at Hartford Hospital’s campus. The patients, with doctor’s referral, can get free vegetables and fruits that will be available in the refrigerators. The director of gynecology at Hartford Hospital, Dr. Jessica Mullins, says that this initiative is taken to address the constantly increasing issue of lack of nutrition among individuals. Mullins informs that many patients report themselves as being food insecure. To improve infant and maternal health, nutrition plays a major role.
