Health Colorado Community Reinvestment grants are supporting local agencies that intend to serve Medicare members, one of which is Project Angel Heart, that provides meals to struggling individuals while also educating them on “Food as Medicine”. This concept educates people on the impacts of nutritious foods on individuals suffering from chronic diseases. Since it is difficult for the ill to access nutritious foods or afford a caretaker due to financial inadequacies, Project Angel Heart provides dietician-approved meals to the patients. Research shows that patients with chronic diseases often face the dilemma of making a choice between buying medicine and buying healthy foods. A nutritious food delivered to their home can improve the mental as well as physical health of a patient.
