University of Maryland to establish new facility focused on health computing

The University of Maryland has announced the inaugural of its University of Maryland 3 Institute for Health Computing. For this endeavour, the universities of Maryland, Baltimore and College Park, are working together. The purpose of this establishment is advance in terms of AI and machine learning to assess, encrypt, and deidentified health data to identify ailments in people across the state for treatment.

The new institute intends to concentrate on algorithms that will increase efficiency in patient management for health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, opioid use disorder. Furthermore, researchers will look at how immersive and 5G wireless technologies might increase the accessibility and effectiveness of telemedicine along with the way that virtual and augmented reality over 5G networks can enhance physicians’ capacity to diagnose patients.
