Westmead Hospital tests AI-based tool for sepsis risk

The Westmead Hospital in New South Wales is experimenting with an AI-powered tool, developed by eHealth NSW in collaboration with the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC), Sydney Health Partners, the University of Sydney and NSW Health Pathology, that is capable of assessing sepsis risk and keeping its score in the ED. The Sepsis Risk Tool Dashboard employs an algorithm that is trained according to a patient’s data. After six months of experimentation, eHealth NSW will conclude whether the tool is fit to be implemented across the state. Sepsis’ diagnosis is quite difficult, especially for junior doctors, which poses death risks. The success of the tool will ease this problem for the physicians working in EDs and for the patients that are in a critical state.
